01

Picking the right dumpster for your project

Choosing a dumpster starts with what you’re throwing away, how much you have, and how long you’ll need it. For a garage cleanout, smaller home project, or a job you’re ready to finish over a few days, our 16-yard is a good fit. If you have bulky furniture or items that won’t break down, we generally recommend the 20-yard instead. Those items leave gaps when loaded, and the taller sides give you extra room.

If you’re working a little at a time, the 20- and 25-yard options offer longer rental periods so you can clean out or renovate in stages. For a major renovation that will need several loads hauled away, we recommend the 25-yard. We’ll talk through your schedule and help plan swap-outs as the project progresses.

Weight matters, too. Heavy materials can reach the included weight allowance while the dumpster still looks partly empty, and disposal requirements vary by material. Dirt, concrete, rocks, brick, asphalt, and gravel may not be loaded without prior approval from RJE. These materials can overload a dumpster quickly, even when it looks mostly empty. The right choice needs to account for both the space your items take up and what they weigh.

When you’re between sizes, we recommend sizing up. A little extra room means less second-guessing as you load and less chance of needing another dumpster just to finish. Tell us about your project—or send a few photos—and we’ll help you choose based on your needs, budget, and timeframe.

02

Where the dumpster goes

Plan for the dumpster to sit on your property, in a spot with a firm, reasonably level surface and enough room for delivery and pickup. The truck needs more space than the dumpster itself to approach, turn, and set it down. Walk the route from your property entrance to the proposed spot and check for narrow gates, slopes, soft ground, low branches, and overhead power lines. Let us know about septic tanks, drain fields, and other underground utilities before delivery so we can assess a suitable location and access route. We want the dumpster on your property rather than in the street or another public space.

Think about how you’ll load it, too. A spot close to the work can save a lot of trips, but it also needs to leave room for the dumpster doors to open and keep access clear for emergency vehicles, contractors, and neighbors. Tell us about gates, access arrangements, or other site limitations when scheduling. We’ll discuss placement with you and confirm the final spot at delivery.

Keep the delivery and pickup route free of parked vehicles, stored materials, and other obstructions throughout the rental. When it’s time for pickup, make sure gates are accessible and everything is contained within the dumpster, with nothing sticking out over the sides or above the fill line.

03

What can go in

Our dumpsters take most household junk, furniture, yard debris, and renovation waste. Accepted materials can all go in the same dumpster—there’s no need to separate your cleanout from your project debris. We want you to get your money’s worth, so take advantage of the space by breaking down items where practical and filling gaps as you load. Keep everything below the top rail and within the dumpster’s weight limit.

The following items cannot go in: hazardous, radioactive, or toxic waste or their containers; asbestos-contaminated waste; liquids, chemicals, pesticides, hand sanitizers, adhesives, waste oil, used oil filters, or wet paint; batteries, engines, explosives, biological or medical waste, septic tank waste, or animal carcasses.

Dirt, concrete, rocks, brick, asphalt, and gravel may not be loaded without prior approval from RJE. These materials are extremely heavy and can overload a dumpster quickly, even when it looks mostly empty.

Mattresses are accepted, with included quantities and additional charges depending on your rental. Tires require prior approval and separate handling, with a $25 disposal charge per tire.

Have a question about a particular item? Reach out—we’re happy to help. See our rental agreement for the full disposal and loading requirements.

Common questions

What dumpster sizes does RJE offer, and what do they cost?

16-yard: $425 for 3 days or $475 for 7 days, with 1.5 tons included. 20-yard: $550 for 10 days or $800 for 30 days, with 2 tons and one mattress included. 25-yard: $650 for 10 days with 2.5 tons, or $975 for 30 days with 3 tons; two mattresses included. Extra days are $25 per day.

What happens if my dumpster is over the weight allowance?

Weight above the included allowance is $100 per ton. The maximum permitted weight for any rental is 4 tons, and excess contents may need to be removed.

What can’t go in the dumpster?

Hazardous, radioactive, or toxic waste; asbestos-contaminated waste; liquids, chemicals, pesticides, adhesives, waste oil, oil filters, or wet paint; batteries, engines, explosives, medical waste, septic tank waste, and animal carcasses. Dirt, concrete, rocks, brick, asphalt, and gravel need prior approval. Tires need prior approval and are $25 each.

Where will the dumpster be placed?

On your property, on a firm, reasonably level surface with room for the truck to approach and set it down. Tell us about septic systems, underground utilities, overhead lines, and gates before delivery. We confirm the final spot at delivery.

Can I cancel or move my dumpster?

Cancellations at least 48 hours before delivery have no charge; within 48 hours there is a $25 fee. Never move a dumpster yourself. Moving it after delivery is $75 per request.
